This publication stems from the death mask of Herman Bernard Wiardi (Stuuf) Beckman. Beckman was a prominent member of the Social Democratic Workers’ Party (SDAP) and was active in the resistance during World War II. Unfortunately he did not survive the war and died of typhus on 15 March 1945 in Dachau concentration camp.

On the basis of letters addressed to Beckman’s wife after his death, you will read about the touching story that lies behind this mask. Written by fellow inmates of Beckman’s at the time, these letters all offer a perspective on his personality as well as the meaningful role he played for the inmates in the concentration camp.
